Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (HEMC)

HEMC is a key cellulose ether widely used in construction materials, paints, and personal care products. It acts as a thickener, water-retention agent, and binder in tile adhesives, cement mortars, and gypsum plasters, improving workability and adhesion. In coatings and cosmetics, HEMC enhances viscosity, stability, and film-forming properties. Its excellent solubility and thermal gelation make it ideal for diverse industrial applications.

HEMC grade Viscosity range Application
CELOSE MES series 400-200000 mPa.s Paints, detergent, concrete
CELOSE ME series 60000-200000 mPa.s Universal grade for dry mixed
CELOSE ME T series 60000-200000 mPa.s Modified grade for tile adhesive
CELOSE ME C series 60000-200000 mPa.s Modified grade for cement based putty
CELOSE ME G series 60000- 200000 mPa.s Modified grade for gypsum mortar

What is HEMC?

Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (HEMC) is a non-ionic, water-soluble cellulose ether derived from natural cellulose. Through chemical modification, it exhibits excellent thickening, water retention, film-forming, and adhesive properties. HEMC is widely used in construction materials, coatings, adhesives, and personal care products due to its stability, compatibility, and adjustable viscosity.

Applications of HEMC

  • Tile adhesives & cement mortars (improves adhesion & open time)
  • Self-leveling compounds & renders (enhances flow & crack resistance)
  • Gypsum-based products (optimizes setting time & workability)
  • Water-based paints (stabilizes pigments & prevents splashing)
  • Texture coatings (provides smooth application & film formation)
  • Enhances bonding strength & flexibility in wood glue and ceramic adhesives
  • Used in shampoos, creams, and ointments as a thickener & stabilizer
